Training to Change Your Instincts

leadership sellingI just can’t stop thinking about the parallels to sales training and this movie. I love it!

The Karate Kid is training like crazy, repeating every move and act until they’re instinct. Why does he train until his muscles ache? To create new habits and replace bad ones. Selling skills need to be trained just like fighting skills need to be trained. There is no difference, except that you can probably make ten times more money as an X Factor Sales Professional than a Master Level Karate Kid.

So ask yourself these questions:

Do I train my selling skills with the same intensity as the Karate Kid trains his fighting skills? Why or Why not?

What would happen if I did? Would I earn more money?

Would I remove stress from my life?

You probably don’t have to think too hard about the answers. So today, put a plan together to train your selling skills with Karate Kid level of intensity!

    Excellent post, Jason
A sales person must train consistently in order to sharpen their selling skills to the point that they don't have to think about which skill to use in a certain situation, but the skill comes naturally and easy just like the skills came for the Karate Kid after he had trained and practiced them consistently.

Training your current skills and learning new skills are necessary for success in sales.

    Thank you
    You do a GREAT job.

I have just finished all my pre-coaching goals with my team members. As a leader, I doubt that anything I have ever done will have the impact that these sessions will have. I realize that in the past, I have not known my players - had no idea what their dreams were, what motivated them to come to work each day. I feel like I have so much more purpose to my day, my life, my career - thank you for giving me direction and a path to go down. I have always cared - the big difference is my team now knows I care.
